FAQs

What is Ray?

Ray is an online mental wellness platform that connects those in need to compassionate, empathetic supporters in 1-on-1 support sessions. Those looking for support can select a Ray Supporter to talk to based on their background and identifiers.

Is Ray a crisis or emergency service?

No. If you or anyone you know is in danger, don’t use Ray. Please refer to our resources page for immediate help.

Who are Ray Supporters?

Ray Supporters come from a variety of backgrounds, but the majority of them have prior counseling experience before volunteering with Ray. All supporters are individually interviewed with the Ray team before becoming a supporter. Our supporters are all trained in motivational interviewing, active listening, and promoting wellness. Some of them are training to be psychologists and psychiatrists, others are peer counselors, others are wellness cultivators, and others come from crisis counseling backgrounds. While we do individually vet our supporters, we cannot guarantee the validity of their backgrounds.

What are the support sessions like?

Ray Supporters engage with users in support sessions through voice calling for up to 30 minutes at a time. Supporters are there to actively listen to users and give them the space to feel heard. They work with users to brainstorm healthy next steps and promote wellness. Our supporters do not offer medical treatment, psychological advice or diagnoses.

Do I have to pay?

No. Our support sessions are free.
